“Divine Illusion,” is an homage to the loved ones the duo lost in Oakland’s Ghost Ship fire. Created in the haze of confusion that follows devastating loss, the song reflects on longing to connect with those who have left this realm. As the band shifts their sound toward the murky depths of dub with an upcoming LP to be released on the Felte label in early 2019, “Divine Illusion” is the final chapter of the duo’s industrial/shoegaze sound. The song also serves as a farewell to the Bay Area, to an era that has passed.
lyrics
The sun went out
The world went dark
You rose to the stars
Show me a light
In the blackest sky
Speak to me
From the other side
Whisper to me
That my dreams don’t lie
Divine

Idk if this is oddly particular but I would describe listening to this album like sitting at the edge of a stream and trying to cup the water that flows by: it doesn't matter how tightly you clasp on: it doesn't matter how slowly it leaks out: eventually, it will slip from your hands. It will return to where it came from, and you just have to let it happen.
It walks an EXTREMELY fine line between a very shaky sort of ethereality and a steadfast sense of vigor and life. Truly sublime stuff. qalsy
